           It is essential for young college graduates and seasonal professionals to remain current on industry, market and economic trends, particularly in a global marketplace. If Software Engineers had performed ongoing research, they would have recognized in advance, that software engineering would be a victim of outsourcing. If pharmaceutical sales representatives performed ongoing research, they may have realized that a trend toward early generic market entry would be problematic.

           The key to job security in today’s market is to realize that every professional, no matter what occupation or industry, is a moving target. In today’s environment, an employee's worst enemy is their own inclination toward getting comfortable. The first thing that a professional must realize is that job security doesn’t exist, and it is far better to be pro-active versus reactive.
