What to do during a recession

Alfred Mariani

When the economy slips into a recession, corporate employees should determine whether the recession is across the board or industry-wide. In many cases, an economic downturn starts with one key industry, followed by a ripple effect for industries that rely on a key industry. Such was the case after 9/11, when it started with the airlines and spread to hospitality, travel agencies, tour companies and so on. Currently, the real estate crisis is effecting home construction, realtors, appraisers, lenders, building suppliers, etc.. Job seekers must focus their efforts on non recession industries including healthcare, information technology, facilities/property management, food and beverage industries. Some industries will experience growth, while others will experience decline. Therefore, it is beneficial to work with a job coach who can direct your job search in the right areas.
